Volunteer Spotlight: MeMe Smith

Would it surprise you to learn that MeMe Smith spent 16 years as a librarian? If you worked with her during her time as the RTBS Volunteer Coordinator, your answer is probably, nope. MeMe was born in Pierre, South Dakota, and she bounced around the country as a child and young adult until she landed in Columbus with her husband. She lived there for 30 years, spending half that time as a librarian in Schuyler. When she retired, they moved to Omaha to be closer to her family, which includes one husband, four kids and five grandchildren.  MeMe’s love of reading lead her to RTBS, where she was eventually hired as the Volunteer Coordinator.  She was instrumental in shepherding the volunteers through the dark times of the pandemic.  She retired from that role in 2021, but still volunteers, reading the Council Bluffs Nonpareil, every Friday at 5pm.
